Renaissance Lifestyles, a senior concierge, is very experienced in providing a wide variety of supports to seniors living at home and in retirement residences. We also appreciate the array of community resources Calgary’s seniors can access to support them during this pandemic.
Building a support network
It is recommended that seniors make a list of family and friends who may be able them if needed. It’s great if some of those people live close enough to walk to the person’s home in an emergency. As part of a family emergency plan, seniors should have contacts both in and out of the city who can help them in an emergency. The list of people should Include the names, phone numbers and addresses of these people and should be saved in one’s phone.
A wonderful resource for seniors who may be feeling lonely or isolated is a group of volunteers offering story telling in multiple languages. Seniors can connect with a volunteer who tells them a tale or two to ease isolation. StoryShare is a program run by Storytelling Alberta, a non-profit promoting the tradition of oral storytelling. The program is a partnership with the Calgary Seniors Resource Society.
Build a 72-hour emergency kit
During an emergency, responders may be busy assisting those in immediate need. Making a 72-hour emergency kit , will enable you to better manage an emergency situation. This kit holds supplies to support you, your family, and pets in the event of an emergency. Include any food tailored to dietary restrictions, and make sure that your kit is wheeled and easily accessed.
An emergency kit would include
- a first-aid kit
- personal sanitation items
- warm clothes
- important documents
